Summer 2025 Sailing Lessons

We are looking forward to opening up the program this summer. Please register early so we can plan accordingly. We had a grand time with our sailing lessons in 2024 and are looking forward to a wonderful time in 2025.

Our 2025 Optimist dinghy sailing lessons for youth from age 8 to 18 are offered, using the certified instructors from the Alpena Youth Sailing Club and their Optimist dinghies. Our five, half day, lesson schedule provides youth an introduction to sailing as well as the camaraderie of learning sailing with their peers.

For Summer 2025 Grand Lake Sailing will once again include a week with a morning of introductory sailing lessons using Optimist dinghys and an afternoon of a combination of Optimist dinghys and JY15 Racing instruction using both Optimists and JY15 sailboats. The JY-15s are boats with dual sails, main and jib. They are safe and fun to sail. This week of instruction allows for more advanced sailing experiences.

2025 Optimist Sailing Class Dates

July 21 – July 25

Morning (Optimist) 
10am  – 1pm        $175

Afternoon (JY 15 Racing & Optis) 
1:45pm  –  4:45pm      $175
This is an intermediate / advanced racing clinic.
Open to children who have had previously taken 1-2 years of sailng.  Afternoons on Grand Lake can be a bit windy and instructors want to make sure children have had some experience.

Location

Grand Lake Beach House, Presque Isle Harbor Association, 6606 McCreery Drive, Presque Isle. That is on the north eastern edge of Grand Lake off Highland Pines road onto McCreery Road.

A Wrap-up of our 2024 Sailing Season

Grand Lake Sailing promotes sailing for persons in the Grand Lake Michigan area of Presque Isle County. We currently offer a week of youth sailing lessons in the summer on Grand Lake.

We base our operation at the Grand Lake Beach House of Presque Isle Harbor Association.
